A morning on Hunyadi Ter (Hunyadi Square)

Hunyadi Square (Hunyadi Ter) is one of the squares in Budapest that still features an outdoor farmer's market six days a week.

This morning Benjamin, Glenn, and I started out early at 8:30am (Ben likes to sleep in) and made our way over to the square. There is a brand new (literally, it opened three days ago) playground on the square, so immediately upon arriving at the square Benjamin enjoyed the springy teeter totter and the slide, then we moved on to the long row of vegetable/fruit stalls. Our special finds this morning were two jars of homemade fruit spread - peach and strawberry - for which we paid approximately $2.50 a jar…and the best part, they taste unbelievably good!

After the outdoor market we made our way indoors to the Hunyadi Piac (Hunyadi Market Hall) where we discovered yet another yummy treat - an entire smoked turkey breast. Benjamin found bits of it to be very tasty with lunch this afternoon.

Our final stop was in a specialty gourmet shop called Culinaris where there is a large selection of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, as well as items that cannot be found elsewhere in Budapest (such as Ben and Jerry's ice cream).

A wonderful morning with lots of tasty finds!
